Sussex County Fishing Tournament
On May 4 and 5, Sussex County Local 138 gave a whole new meaning to the term “gone’ fishing” by hosting its 60th annual Clarence “Ish” Friedland Small Fry Trout Fishing Contest.
The fishing contest, held at Sussex County Community College, is the single longest-running event within the PBA. More than 1,000 trout were stocked at the location with more 200 young fishers catching approximately 300 fish.
The event is held in honor of Sergeant Clarence Friedland, an esteemed member of Local 138. Since his passing, his wife Dorothy made sure this event has gone off without a hitch.
Dorothy passed away this past year, but one of her final wishes was that the grand prize of the contest be donated to Local 138 in memory of her and her husband. Because of that wish, the kids continue to fish for “Ish.”
